L'oeil et l'esprit de Merleau-Ponty, l'un des ouvrages les plus profonds sur la vérité de l'art qu'il m'ait été donné de lire (mais ce n'est qu'opinion personnelle, et - surtout - je n'ai que 29 ans)
Clin d'oeil aussi à la présence récurrente de la main dans les peintures et photographies de Viggo Mortensen.
L'artiste est un visionnaire : l'oeil voit, la main exprime. Et ce de manière directe, c'est-à-dire sans le truchement du langage. C'est là la magie de l'art.
Ou, s'il se sert du langage, c'est pour le pervertir, le fissurer, le forcer à ses fins - un supra-langage qui n'en est plus un, qui donne à penser et à ressentir beaucoup plus qu'il ne dit.
Finalement, tout artiste n'est peut-être qu'oeil et main : oeil exprimant / main voyante, indissolublement liés dans le miracle génésique de l'acte créateur.

The eye and the mind", one of the deepest texts about art I happened to read (but it's nothing but personal opinion, and besides I'm only 29!).
Wink, again, to the recurrent appearance of the hand figure in Viggo's paintings and photographs.
To go further: an artist is a visionary - the eye sees, the hand speaks out... And that is done directly, which means, without using any language -
that is the magic of art. Or if language is used, it's in a distorting, breaking-up way which bends it into what
the artist wanted to say - a "more-than-a-language" that leads us to think and feel.
In a way, an artist may be nothing but an eye and a hand:
speaking hand / seeing eye, all rolled into the birth-like wonder of a creative instant.
